Tips for Taking Shades

• Always drape the patient in light blue or light grey.
• Have patient remove lipstick if they haven't already done so.
• Have the patient keep their teeth moist with saliva. It affects the value if the tooth is dull. This is important when using any Guide.
• Lighting should be in the most natural light possible. If the window in your operatory has a lot of greenery around it, be aware that incoming light may be altered.
• Get the patient's opinion on your choice.
• Get as detailed as possible on the Rx characterization. Every piece of information helps.
• Take photo with shade tab if possible.
